Philippine Army Recovered AK-47 Rifle and Munitions

Government troops seized ammunition and electric wires used to explode improvised explosive devices (IEDs) following an encounter with New People’s Army (NPA) guerrillas before midnight Sunday in Himamaylan City, Negros Occidental.

Soldiers recovered 23 rounds of ammunition for AK47 rifle and an AK47 magazine assembly, along with several meters of electric wire. They also found personal items, including rain boots, pants, sweatshirt printed with the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) logo, cell batteries, medical kits, and backpacks.

The firefight happened when the troops of the Philippine Army’s 31st Division Reconnaissance Company, with members of the Technical Support Company of the Philippine National Police’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion-6, patrol the area at Sitio Tagmanok, Barangay Caradio-an.

Lt. Col. Egberto Dacoscos, commanding officer of 62IB, said, there were no injuries on the government side, and the communist rebels withdrew towards the area of Barangays San Antonio and Carabalan of the southern Negros city.

According to Dacoscos, the rebels are very desperate, and their actions lead them to failure and embarrassment. This move is a clear sign of their defeat.

They also recovered personal items such as clothes, slippers and rubber boots, hand-held radios, electrical wires as well as cooking utensils and foodstuff.

The encounter in Himamaylan City was the second engagement of 62IB troops in the past days.
