Royal Canadian Navy Halifax-class frigate HMCS Calgary (FFH-335) arrives at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam for Rim of the Pacific 2016.

HMCS Halifax was the first of an eventual twelve Canadian-designed and -built vessels which combine traditional anti-submarine capabilities with systems to deal with surface and air threats as well. Known as the Halifax class, they are the work horse of the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), which deploys them extensively in task groups. All ships of the class are named after a major city in each province (St. John’s, Halifax, Charlottetown, Fredericton, Ville de Québec, Toronto, Winnipeg, Regina, Calgary and Vancouver) plus the cities of Ottawa and Montreal.

RIMPAC 2016 is the 25th exercise in the series that began in 1971.
