The government will use ships and aircraft of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) to send the 24,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) stuck in quarantine centers to their respective provinces.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque announced President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, and the Department of Health (DOH) to use all government resources to transport OFWs back to their homes after being cleared for coronavirus disease.
To this date, OWWA has started sending OFWs back to their respective provinces with the help from private airline companies. And around 3,459 airplane seats have been reserved for OFWs as of May 25, 2020.
OFWs living in parts of Luzon will be sent to their particular provinces via bus, while ship and plane for those who are Visayas and Mindanao.
For those without quarantine certificates, OWWA will provide the documents(certificate) before they could get on the bus, plane, or ship. Roque also assured OFWs that they would each be issued with quarantine certificates.
