In January 2015, Australia announced to provide two Balikpapan Landing Class Heavy, the HMAS Brunei and Tarakan to the Philippine Navy.

Before the turnover, the vessels undergo refurbishing and fitted with navigational and safety equipment with a total cost of 4 Million Australian dollar.

In August 2015, the two Landing Craft Heavy donated by Australian Government arrived in the Philippines and immediately commissioned to the Philippine Navy.

In July 2015, President Aquino stated during his SONA address that he intended to acquire the remaining 3 Balikpapan Class Vessel”

In March 2016, carried by Biglift cargo ship , the three additional Balikpapan Class arrive in Cebu City, Philippines.

 

The vessels are scheduled for commissioning during the Philippine Navy Anniversary event this coming May 2016.
